Assassin’s Creed Origins Trailer Details Combat System, Enemy Types & More [Watch]

The most recent Assassin’s Creed Origins trailer now reveals more details regarding the upcoming title’s gameplay. In particular, it explores the game’s combat system and how it works. Moreover, fans get a better look at the different weapon types, as well as enemy iterations, that the game has to offer.

Assassin’s Creed Origins Trailer Details Game’s Battle System

As the trailer reveals, combat will be significantly different in Assassin’s Creed Origins gameplay. Game director of Assassin’s Creed Origins, Ashraf Ismail, explains that he and his team wanted to bring something new to the table. Ismail shares that Assassin’s Creed Origins follows a hitbox-based system. This breaks away from other Assassin’s Creed titles, which featured a more parried animation system.

Ultimately, this new battle system affects a player’s weapon and its capabilities. Thus, aspects such as a weapon’s range and speed, as well as the proximity of a player to an opponent, all come into play. Additionally, the battle system also features two base attacks, which add even more dimension to the title’s gameplay.

Other moves include dodging and parrying. All these moves add to what is called the “Adrenaline Meter,” which allows players to “release devastating attacks.” Additionally, there is Fury Mode. This has protagonist Bayek attacking in rage continuously for a span of 10 seconds.

Weapons

The Assassin’s Creed Origins trailer also reveals a plethora of weapons at Bayek’s arsenal. There are the likes of Dual Swords, Scepters, Heavy Blades, Spears, Regular Swords, Heavy Blunt, and Sickle Swords. They all feature their own unique set of range and speed that players can utilize according to what kind of foe they face.

There are also longer range weapons in the form of Bows. As their name type suggests, these weapons will allow players to attack from safer distances. Ismail likens these Bows to guns — such as shotguns and snipers — as different types work similarly to such firearms.

Enemy Types

As Ismail explains, the different types of enemies will ultimately allow the player to better learn the new battle system of Assassin’s Creed Origins. The plethora of enemies will give players a unique experience for every battle. It’s worth noting that there are different archetypes of foes. These range from beefier — but slower — enemies, to assassin-type opponents who take a more hit-and-run approach.
