Recent reports reveal that the latest PS4 update has been leaked. The patch in question is update 5.0. Here’s what you need to know about what features it will bring.
PS4 Update 5.0: What You Need to Know
Interestingly, update 5.0 brings in the ability to stream Twitch at a quality of 1080p and 60 frames per second. It’s worth noting, however, that this only applies to PS4 Pro users. Sony has yet to officially address such patch notes, though. Regardless, this development is an exciting prospect for fans, especially those who are avid users of Twitch.
Additionally, the PS4 update will also allow users to follow anyone’s account. This is an improvement on following accounts in general, as only verified users were previously allowed to be followed. As per reports, this tweak is part of Sony’s efforts to “encourage more sharing of content and more interactions.” With this, users will be allowed to follow anyone they want while foregoing a friend request. Notably, this will not affect a user’s friend limit either.
On the other hand, users will also be able to control who can follow their account. Should they opt for just followers who are friends, they can choose to do so. Alternatively, they can allow any user to follow them. Furthermore, there is also the option to block users as well.
Improvements in Sub Accounts
Meanwhile, sub/child accounts also see some tweaks in update 5.0. Reportedly, new family accounts will be able to add several adult accounts in one family. Parental controls can be adjusted on an account basis. Thus, each sub account can have its own set of restrictions and other settings tailored to their taste.
In order to better manage sub accounts, a new application will be launched later down the road. This will allow users to access family membership options via PC or smartphone. Some may consider this to be a notable step forward on Sony’s part. Seeing as the company is now placing even more focus on age-restricted content control, it seems that it is working further into filtering content that is age-appropriate for their respective audiences.
Other Features in PS4 Update 5.0
Upon the release of update 5.0, users will now be able to access system notifications from the Quick Menu. This will ultimately allow users to check in on their notifications — as well as the status of their uploads and downloads — without having to go back to the Home screen.
Other tweaks include more support for other languages (Thai, Vietnamese, and Romanian to name a few) and the capability to link broadcasts to a PlayStation Community. Overall, update 5.0 seems to be promising as it is. However, as to when it will become officially available is still up in the air.
