Valve has released the first trailer for the upcoming digital card game, Artifact. Based on the massively popular role-playing game, Dota, Artifact will feature elements from Valve’s most famous game yet.
Dota Card Game
The new project was announced during Valve’s International Dota 2 tournament where teams of gamers competed for a $20 million price. It is one of the biggest gaming tournaments in the world.
The 34-teaser launched during the event did not offer many details about the game. It did, however, confirm that Artifact will be available for purchase sometime in 2018. Event host Sean “Day9” Plott announced during the second and last day of the tournament that the game would have the ability to build barracks, creeps, and lanes.
“I played a game where I was getting my ass kicked in two lanes,” Plotts recounted (via Ars Technica). “I kept building barracks in the third [lane], and I kept flooding the lane with creeps.”
When it comes out, Dota’s Artifact will be battling against similar card games like Blizzard’s Hearthstone, Bethesda’s The Elder Scrolls Legends and Fable Fortune.
Join the Battle
In other news, Valve also released a new trailer for Dota 2. Titled Join the Battle, the video released on the developing company’s YouTube account last week was the first proper trailer for the game in six years. Its predecessor What Does a Hero Truly Need?” was released way back in 2011, noted Dot ESports.
Join the Battle is a simple trailer that features familiar heroes like Mirana, Dragon Knight, Huskar, and more in a massive battle. Valve also added positive reviews of the popular multiplayer game throughout the years. By the end of the video, Valve urged viewers to sign up to Dota 2 and “join the battle.”
“Every day, millions of players worldwide enter battle as one of over a hundred Dota heroes,” the video description read. “And no matter if it’s their 10th hour of play or 1,000th, there’s always something new to discover.” Dota 2 or Defense of the Ancients is a stand-alone sequel to a multiplayer online game of the same title. The game was officially released in 2013. Watch the trailer below.
