The Nazi are using an undead army to win the war in Call of Duty: WWII Zombies. In a new interview ahead of the game’s release, Sledgehammer creative director Cameron Dayton bragged that his team was able to create the most terrifying zombie mode available in the market today.
The are plenty of zombie video games in the market right now, but this new one from Sledgehammer and Activision is one that has everyone’s attention. The game is set during the World War II and in an alternate universe where the Nazi has learned necromancy and raise an army of the dead.
Dayton promised that the game would not disappoint. In fact, in a conversation with Game Spot and Sledgehammer development director, he claimed that the game’s horror mode is the best in the market today. “There are these fun elements that we are jazzed about for our game, and it just kept coming back to the one thing,” he explained. “[W]e believe we have built the scariest zombie mode that has ever been created.”
He recounted that when they were testing it in their offices, he could hear screams coming from the players. Even those who exactly know when the scary moments will happen still get freaked out when they play the game. That said, Call of Duty: WWII Zombies will not rely on jump scares in order to keep players on edge. It has genuine scary moments that, he says, will surprise everyone.
Call of Duty: WWII Zombies In VR?
Game Spot also asked the duo if the game will be coming in virtual reality. Big horror games are adapting the technology to make the stories more immersive and, therefore, more terrifying. Resident Evil 7, for example, has been released in VR earlier this year. Would WWII Zombies follow suit?
Dayton divulged that the team has not considered translating the game for virtual reality devices. He explained that they wanted to stay true to the type of game they are making that going VR is not the direction they wanted to thread. Call of Duty: WWII Zombies will be released on Nov. 3. It will be available for PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
