Unsung Story: Tales of the Guardians To Start From Scratch Under New Developer

Do not expect to see Unsung Story: Tales of the Guardians enter the video game market anytime soon. According to reports, Playdek has exited the project and handed over the development of the crowdfunded role-playing game to another company, Little Orbit. Moreover, the new developer will be starting from scratch.

Another Delay

The long and winding journey to the creation of Unsung Story: Tales of the Guardians is not over yet. Playdek recently announced (via Polygon) that the development of the anticipated RPG will be passed on to another company, Little Orbit.

“Effective immediately publisher.developer Little Orbit has taken over all the right and assets to Unsung Story from Playdek, and is now the project creator,” the company has stated in an update on Kickstarter. “They believe strongly the game can be an amazing Tactics RPG, and they are excited to carry on and bring [Yasumi] Matsuno’s story to life.”

The company also added that Little Orbit would be in charge of delivering updates from here on out. Unsung Story: Tales of the Guardians was announced in 2013 and launched a Kickstarter campaign to fund its development in 2014. The game was able to gain enough funding on the last day of the campaign.

The game was initially slated to start shipping around 2015. The development involves an impressive array of talent including Matsuno, Final Fantasy Tactics designer. Akihiko Yoshida (Tactics Ogre, Vagrant Story), Hitoshi Sakimoto (Final Fantasy 12, Final Fantasy Tacticsare also onboard.

In-Line With What Fans Wanted

Little Orbit, in their own statement, promised that they would deliver what the Kickstarter backers really wanted. The new developers said that they perused every single comment and did their research to find out what the people wanted. Needless to say, the new developers aim to deliver something that was more in tune with how Matsuno envisioned the game. In order to do that, they will focus on the single-player mode.

Little Orbit also promised to honor every single Kickstarter rewards at no extra cost. The company will be reaching out to backers in the next couple of weeks in order to get current information and deliver what Playdek has promised.
