The Tenth Doctor will be stealing art and fighting off an army of zombies in Call of Duty: WWII Zombies. At San Diego Comic Con last year, it was announced that David Tennant would lend his voice to the upcoming horror-shooter game. Naturally, it will involve some Doctor Who Easter Eggs.
A Star-Studded Zombie Apocalypse
Tennant joins other actors such as Katheryn Winnick of History’s Vikings and Elodie Yung of Marvel’s Daredevil. The game revolves around an alternate universe where the Nazi learned necromancy and took over the world using an undead army.
It was meant as a darker horror take on the franchise. While it will not be released until later this year, Sledgehammer creative director Cameron Dayton and development director John Horsley sat down and talked about one of the most anticipated video games of the year.
In an interview with Gamespot, Dayton admitted that they put together a list of actors they want to see in the franchise, but that was 15 years ago. They admitted that the video game industry had grown so much that actors can readily step in and be involved. That includes Tennant who was on Doctor Who from 2006-2010. The long-running sci-fi series launched the Scottish actor to superstardom that, seven years later, his stint as the Tenth Doctor still haunts him.
“Yeah, when we decided to go stylistically real-world and real characters, we can’t see him pulling out a sonic screwdriver and talking about the Time Lords,” Dayton said when asked if there will be references toward Tennant’s role in Doctor Who in Call of Duty: WWII Zombies. ” However, there are some subtle nods and very hidden away in some of the Easter Eggs that could be construed in certain ways.”
A Terrifying Gaming Experience
The two also assured fans that the upcoming game would be really terrifying, not just have cheap jump scares. The development team achieved this by creating a world that looks real as possible.
Dayton says that if the gamers can see every single detail of the world, they can imagine that it is happening and it can happen in the real world, too! Call of Duty: WWII Zombies will be released worldwide on Nov. 3.
