World of Warcraft, the massive multiplayer online role-playing game, reached another milestone. It was revealed earlier this year that its in-game currency is worth more than real-life currency, the Venezuelan Bolivar.
World of Warcraft Token Real World Value
World of Warcraft is one of the biggest MMORPG in the world and, since it was released in 2004, it still a force to be reckoned with in the gaming industry. In fact, one evidence that it has gotten so big is its in-game currency which is officially worth more than the real money in Venezuela.
Venezuelan Twitter user @KalbePrime revealed way back in July (via The Blaze) that the World of Warcraft gold is now worth 8385g per USD. In comparison, the exchange rate for the bolivar to U.S. dollar during that time was at least 8493.97 – US$1.
The data is based on the Venezuelan market which, according to the site, is the most-used currency exchange in the country. However, the Venezuelan government’s official price for the bolivar is 10 to 1 U.S. dollar.
However, because the tweet was posted way back in July, the data is now outdated. DolarToday, which tracks the Bolivar, dropped even lower in the past few weeks. In 2015, US$1 is to 279 bolivars. As of this writing, a Bolivar to US Dollar rate is 14,760.89 to 1. Meanwhile, in World of Warcraft, a player can purchase over 138,000 pieces of in-game gold for US$20. So that is 6,900 pieces of WoW gold for US$1, calculated by Value Walk.
Venezuelan Bolivar has been seeing a decline in worth for the past few months. The country has suffered since Princess Maduro took over. Aside from decline of the worth of its currency, the country has also experienced a shortage of food and other necessities. Two opposition leaders have also been jailed and at least ten people were killed, according to reports.
It happened again, WoW gold is worth more than the Venezuelan Bolivar.
