Overwatch Summer Games 2017: What You Need to Know

The comeback of Lucioball brings the opportunity for fans to experience it competitively this time around. Reportedly, players who participate will be granted with the likes of sprays, top 500 slots, and placement matches.

Nevertheless, regular Lucioball will still be available to interested parties. Lucioball also sees some tweaks with improvements to Lucio’s Ultimate. Allegedly, it now features increased movement speed and reduced “boop” cooldown.

Skins from Overwatch’s Summer Games 2016 will return as well. However, they will sport prices of normal cosmetics. New skins for Summer Games 2017, meanwhile, will come at a higher price point. This means 3000 Credits for Legendary, 750 Credits for Epic, and the like.

Besides last year’s Rio map, Summer Games 2017 will feature a map of Sydney, Australia as well. Matches will thus take place between the two locations. According to reports, this year’s Summer Games are slated to run until August 29.

What Are the Overwatch Summer Games?

For the uninitiated, the Summer Games are a seasonal event in the multiplayer first-person shooter game, Overwatch. The first Summer Games launched last year. It introduced players to a new game mode called Lucioball.

What is Lucioball, though? Essentially, it is an adaptation of association football. Notably, it features simpler rules and some tweaks that cater to the character Lucio and his abilities. It is a Brawl game mode that is exclusive to Overwatch’s Summer Games.

Special Loot Boxes or Credits can be earned during this special event. Furthermore, the event also brings exclusive new content to the game. Take note, however, that a lot of the new content is event-exclusive. As such, they later on become unavailable once the event concludes.

Other Overwatch News

Other Overwatch updates detail the arrival of the one and only Doomfist to the game. Blizzard, Overwatch’s publisher, previously teased of the character’s appearance even before the game saw a release. He has thus been long awaited by many.

As per Blizzard, “Doomfist can slam the ground, knock enemies into the air and off balance, or charge into the fray with his Rocket Punch.” This is on top of Doomfist’s Hand Cannon, which is capable of handing out ranged damage to foes. “When facing a tightly packed group,” Blizzard adds, “Doomfist leaps out of view, then crashes down to earth with a spectacular Meteor Strike.”
