Christmas this year is going to be extra special for Netflix subscribers as the biggest movie of the year, Captain America: Civil War will be available for streaming next month.
Reliving the hair-raising airport fight between superheroes right in your own home will be the best Christmas present ever. And great timing, too as the third Captain America installment is coming to your favorite streaming platform on December 25.
Netflix-Disney Exclusive Contract
Netflix subscribers will also get to enjoy other top movies of this year. Netflix entered into a contract agreement with Disney last September. Meaning, Netflix now holds exclusive rights to all Disney movies including Marvel, Lucas and Pixar.
Starting December 1, subscribers get to watch Honey, I Shrunk the Kids (1989), The Rock (1996) and another top 2016 movie, Angry Birds. Aside from Captain America: Civil War, subscribers get enjoy Disney-owned movies like Finding Dory, Zootopia and The Jungle Book.
Also up for streaming soon are Doctor Strange, Alice in Wonderland: Through the Looking Glass, and many more. This contract is a big deal for Netflix because this means Disney movie fans can stream all Disney movies exclusively on their platform.
The contract its Marvel, Lucas and Pixar subsidiaries. All movies that were released after Captain America: Civil War, can only be streamed on Netflix. But the Disney movies that were released before Civil War can still be streamed by other platforms offering them like Amazon Prime and Starz.
According to Forbes, Netflix reportedly earns a hefty sum of $300million in total from the contract. The contract is also the first time that Disney favored an online streaming platform instead of the traditional cable channels.
