American Music Awards 2016: 10 Best Moments

While the American Music Awards 2016 has a lot of lows and some not-so-entertaining performances, the awards also had some really good moments worth sharing.

Apart from the central theme, unintentionally being about the new president-elect Donald Trump’s victory, the show was up to a certain degree, diverse. There were performances, awards, and artists who stood out against others.

The biggest disappointment on the American Music Awards 2016 was the chemistry between co-hosts Jay Pharoah and Gigi Hadid. There was no fusion at all and the jokes and punchlines were too forced.

In addition to the bad are Justin Bieber non-live performance and the boring Chainsmokers’ spectacle. James Bay did not help either and instead of livening up the room, he added some snooze there. Finally, giving an award to a 32-year old Prince album was not the best way to go.

Despite all that, there are still some really good performances of the night. Here’s our top 10 Best American Music Awards 2016 Moments and a lot of it includes Donald Trump.

10. Chrissy Teigen Drops the F- Bomb on the Elections

Well, this is not really a performance but an introduction. While introducing her husband, John Legend, she also took the time to share her thoughts about the elections.

“This next performer is a brilliant musician and a wonderful father, who makes a pretty damn good breakfast sandwich and he has been known to write love songs about me. What can I say? I’m very inspiring. But his songs are bigger than either of us, and on the heels of what’s been a really interesting, fucked-up, fucking election, for all of us … I think we can all use a little love tonight.”

9. Arianna Grande Plus Nicki Minaj!

ABC might need to triple check if the censorship is done right here in this Nicki Minaj and Arianna Grande performance. The two got the cold room hot in an instant with a naughty beach party while performing Side to Side.

8. Zayn Malik’s Subtle One Direction Joke

Zayn Malik’s first award after him leaving One Direction and he says “This one just has my name on it, right?” The now solo artist is proud of his achievement and he’s letting everyone know about it. Congrats on the Best New Artist of the Year.

4. Selena Gomez’ Tearjerker Speech

After receiving Favorite Female Artist award, her speech said it all. Almost everyone in the room got teary-eyed including Lady Gaga and viewers everywhere.

“I had everything, and I was absolutely broken, I kept it together and I swore I would never let you down, but I kept it too much together to where I let myself down. … I’m not trying to get validation, nor do I need it anymore. … If you are broken, you don’t have to stay broken.”
