The X-Men are yet again in a pickle both in the comics and in the cinema. It appears Bryan Singer’s departure will mean the new X-Men movie is a reboot.
It will be a sad day for X-Men film fans as Bryan Singer appears to have hit the sack. According to the Hollywood Reporter, Bryan Singer will not return to direct any more X-Men films. Apparently, producer and writer Simon Kinberg is working on a script to “reconfigure” the series.
This will be the third time the X-Men characters will be revamped for a film franchise. That is if the new script will entirely be another reboot. This can be bad news for reception as fans can simply just bear with so much. Especially since the X-Men in the comics are facing imminent destruction at the hands of the Inhumans.
Sadly, we may have to consider that the three mainstays of the cast – Michael Fassbender, Jennifer Lawrence and James McAvoy – have reached the end of their contracts. Which means they may use yet another new cast. No one knows if Kinberg’s script will use plot points in the story to introduce new characters.
However, if they are not taking on other cast members such as Sophie Turner and the newly-introduced mutants, then they are running out of main X-Men characters to introduce.
New X-Men Movie: Mutants Everywhere
It appears Deadpool is out to make things crazier. The first Deadpool film may have kicked in a new franchise for the X-Men mythos. It had fantastic timing granted that X-Men: Apocalypse didn’t “meet” the bar as X-Men: Days of Future Past did.
This is a tremendous success for Deadpool, as it raked up $782-million in revenue for a budget of $58-million. In fact, it seems FOX greenlit another sequel while another sequel is on the ropes.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, the next Deadpool film will be about the X-Force. This is a clandestine, black-ops unit within the X-Men. They are in charge of covert operations, including assassinations, directed on mutant threats.
Sadly, there’s still no news if Michael Fassbender, Jennifer Lawrence, and James McAvoy will make future appearances in the film.
The new X-Men movie so far, Deadpool 2, will hit cinemas approximately March 2018.
