Vampire Diaries Season 8 Release Date: Elena Won’t Comeback, Ian Somerhalder Hints [Spoilers]

Speculations of Nina Dobrev’s return on the Vampire Diaries season 8 have been crushed by Ian Somerhalder who hinted that Elena will not be part of the final season.

The eight-year long vampire series has created a wide fanbase not just because of a good plot. Equally, or arguably more important, is the love triangle of Elena Gilbert and the Salvatore brothers Damon and Stefan.

Elena (Dobrev) is a human resident of Mystic Falls, while Damon (Somerhalder) and Stefan (Paul Wesley) are vampires. Prior to the arrival of these hot vamps, Mystic Falls was a peaceful and ordinary neighborhood.

Dobrev’s character has had a pivotal role in the development of the story. However, after season 6, Dobrev announced she will be leaving the Vampire Diaries causing ratings to plummet.

Post-Elena, the series has struggled to maintain its fanbas and is finally ending with its last season, Vampire Diaries season 8.

No Elena for Vampire Diaries Season 8

Elena returning to the finale has been the much-anticipated conclusion any Vampire Diaries fan can dream of. Unfortunately, it looks to it that such an ending is not included on the script.

As hinted by Somerhalder during an interview, Dobrev’s character might not be joining the final season. Though the actor of Damon’s character said that it is based on his opinion, the alternate ending he suggested seem to be compelling enough to believe.

According to an interview with E!, Somerhalder said that he does not think Elena will return because, firstly “It’s mystic falls, there are no happy endings.”

Secondly, he also deems the two vampires unfit for Elena, saying that they need to leave her alone and let Mystic Falls be at peace.

He even continues to share his version of an ending where both Damon and Stefan leave Mystic Falls. They go to a far away in the Caribbean, lounge and relax, drink some “50 year Caribbean rum”, remove their rings, let the sun rise and then “poof” they’re gone.

Vampire Diaries Season 8 Major Spoilers

Outside the Elena comeback story, much will be happening during the season finale. According to IB Times, a Stefan and Damon reunion is first on the books. Though upon retrieving his brother, Damon notices that he is possessed by something else.

Steroline (Stefan and Caroline) will be going through some ups and downs in the relationship. Caroline juggles her life as a mom, a new job and rekindling the fire between them.

In addition to that, a death can be expected as well as some flashbacks to previous seasons. Though Elena’s return is not confirmed yet, other characters are also said to come back for the final season.

The Vampire Diaries season 8 premieres Friday, Oct. 21 at 8 p.m. EDT on The CW.

  1. I think that if Nina doesn’t get to reprise her role as Elena because Ian had to marry an insecure witch who can’t seem to understand how acting works, then there is really no point in watching the final season just like there was no point in watching season 7. Elena was the heart and soul of both the book series and the tv show and without her the show has plummeted in ratings. That’s why they are on there last season. I say get rid of Ian and find someone new to play the bad boy heartthrob. They literally built their cast around Nina, it’s no wonder that without her there their ratings have dropped so drastically.
