Move over NX, Nintendo has unveiled an even cooler console, the NES Classic Edition. It’s a miniature version of Nintendo’s original console that released way back in ’85.
The bundle comes with the mini console, one controller, and thirty games. All for the low, low price of $60 USD. If you wanna grab an extra controller for the multiplayer games, those run for $10. No word on if the thirty games the console comes with will be all that’s ever available, or if Nintendo plans to add more in the form of expansions or what have you. You can find a full list of games at the bottom of this article.
This is a pretty great move by Nintendo, and at an affordable cost. I can only hope that this sells well enough to prompt them to rerelease the Super Nintendo Entertainment System in much the same fashion. I played a fair amount of NES growing up, but the SNES was my jam. Maybe we’ll even see a Nintendo 64 at some point, too. A boy can dream.
The NES Classic Controller can also be used for virtual console games on the Wii and Wii U by connecting it to a Wii Remote.
If the reception to this in the last 24 hours is any indication, Nintendo is going to dominate the year between this and Pokemon Go.
