About six weeks ago, Blizzard announced that some sweeping changes would be coming alongside the game’s next expansion. That expansion, Whispers of the Old Gods, will feature 134 new cards and will release late April or early May.
Just as any game with momentum based solely on releasing content on a regular basis, Hearthstone players have been enduring something of a drought lately. The last time the game saw content was November of last year. That’s nearly four months, and they still have about two to go. Most people predicted the expansion would be out by now and for good reason. This is the longest Hearthstone has gone without content. At least Whispers of the Old Gods will usher in a new era for the game, one that players are ridiculously excited for.
Whispers of the Old Gods focuses on WarCraft’s Lovecraftian side, and the source of some of World of WarCraft’s best boss fights. The expansion will feature 134 new cards, and many of which will interact with the new legendary card, C’Thun. For this reason, the first pack you open will grant you that card as well as two Beckoners of Evil. Preorders will go live on Monday, 3/14, for 49.99, which will get you fifty packs as well as a unique card back.
Alongside the announcement comes a teaser trailer with a ridiculously catchy song that I wish were 3 minutes and not 1.
