March is only a blink away, and with it comes a new season of Killer Instinct, featuring none other than Halo’s Arbiter.
To commemorate the new character, Microsoft unveiled a new trailer today, featuring the voice of someone trying his very best to emulate Keith David, but nobody can emulate that wonderful voice. He must have had scheduling conflicts, or something. That man keeps busy.
Adding Halo’s Arbiter to Killer Instinct is a super smart move by Microsoft. There are now plenty of people who might give the game a whirl that wouldn’t have otherwise.
And when they do, they’ll be greeted with sleeker graphics and a new lighting engine. Nothing makes me more giddy than a graphics update.
In terms of visuals, we are adding new graphics technology; reflection tech for the stages; re-introducing screen space color adjustments that work with gameplay; adding an all-new dynamic lighting system that provides greater realism and interaction for the characters and stages. Not only will Season 3 feature this new lighting, but we’ve gone back and re-lit everything for Season 1 and 2 as well. We can’t wait for our fans to see the enhancements of KI’s visuals!
There are some comparison shots over at Ultra-Combo. The characters definitely look a lot better, and the stages are better lit, and don’t seem as flat as they did previously.
Still no word on exactly when in March Season 3 of Killer Instinct is launching, or whether it’ll happen simultaneously across PC and Xbox One. But we at least know that it’ll look more striking when it finally comes out.
