Hideo Kojima and Guillermo Del Toro will be speaking together at this year’s DICE Summit to give the afternoon’s keynote.
Now before you go getting too excited, let’s get one thing clear. Silent Hills is dead – unless Konami revives it as a licensed pachinko machine, that is. But the fact that the two entertainment juggernauts are speaking together at a gaming event is interesting, to say the least. Despite the project they were working on collapsing, the two must have maintained a decent rapport. So even if the Silent Hills lie dormant, that doesn’t mean they can’t collaborate on another project, perhaps Quiet Mounds.
I know Guillermo Del Toro has been pretty disappointed that the few games he’s tried to take part in have crumbled, and that he says he’s done. But the fat lady hasn’t sung yet. As long as Del Toro and Kojima are friendly with one another, I’d say there’s also a chance that a spark of creativity might lead to something wondrous. Maybe Kojima’s PS4 exclusive will be a Pacific Rim game, directed by Hideo Kojima with help from Guillermo Del Toro.
Now that’s wishful thinking.
Chances are super unlikely that the two’s speech at DICE this year will have that or any other announcement. The DICE Site says as much:
In a session titled “A Conversation with Hideo Kojima and Guillermo del Toro,” these master storytellers will offer insight into their creative vision and the driving forces behind their artistic pursuits. Moderated by longtime video game host and producer Geoff Keighley, this conversation will revisit some of their fondest memories from their own individual careers as well as some of the pivotal moments from each other’s work that remain a constant source of inspiration.
But then again, they’d never announce an announcement.
They’re better than that, right?
