Guild Wars 2’s Winter Update Hits Today

By on

Guild Wars 2’s first quarterly patch, dubbed the winter update, dropped today, and it’s a big one, just as foretold a couple weeks ago. Arenanet are bringing in the update with a feature page, as well as a trailer:

The trailer features players gliding across Tyria, looking quite suave doing so, and the revamped Shatterer boss fight. Perhaps with the winter update, people will once again raise arms against the dragon, who’d previously sat dormant most days.

The Shatterer, champion of the Elder Dragon Kralkatorrik, has powered up and learned new tactics. Accompanied by dangerous Branded forces, it’s ready to terrorize Blazeridge Steppes like never before. Stay on your toes and defend your siege weapons, and if you’ve learned to glide in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns, you can even use your glider to attack from the air!

Gliding was one of the cooler features added in Heart of Thorns, so it’s nice to see that it’s not remaining tucked away in that expansion landmass and will be useful no matter where you go or, as it would seem, what you’re doing, from leveling to killing a dragon.

The winter update’s patch notes themselves are absolutely massive, and if you want to trudge through them, feel free to, but Arenanet detailed most of the bigger changes in a series of blog posts over the last couple weeks. For anyone curious about the thought process behind the balance changes, there’s a blog post for that. Or if you wanna know how gliding will work in Tyria; yup there’s a blog post for that, too. Or maybe you want to know more about the revamped Shatterer boss fight before you dive headfirst into it, and get killed – repeatedly.

Or maybe you just wanna download the patch and go figure all this out on your own because you’re a maverick.

Well, then, cowboy, get to it.
