After a relatively short-lived, week-long beta, Metal Gear Online is now officially out.
Whatever caused the short downtime last week evidently didn’t cause any major hurdles to their overall plan, and anyone who wants can go fulton anyone they want now on Steam.
The announcement also details a week-long promotion:
If you didn’t get a chance to check out the MGO beta last week, we have a little extra incentive planned. Check out the game and jump into minimum one (1) match between 1/19-1/26 and we’ll reward you with a bonus 3000 GEAR POINTS (GP) to help you customize your brand new characters’ gear style.
Despite how popular Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain was when it came out, that was four months ago. It’s tough to gauge how popular the online component will be now that the dust around the game has settled. Right now there are just over 9,000 people playing MGS:V, and a lot of those people are likely playing the single player portion of the game.
Still, it’s a misnomer that games need huge communities to thrive. They really just need a community. Size is nice, but not a prerequisite, but who knows, maybe this will take off.
Konami and the mysterious people still working on MGSV and MGO have said 2016 will be a year full of update plans and DLC.
So at the very least, they’re continuing to stoke that fire .
