Battlefield 5 has been confirmed. As sure as night follows day and day follows night EA Dice have announced that work is in progress on the new Battlefield. There has been no official announcement as yet but EA Dice’s Development Director, Dan Vaderlind, confirmed that now Star Wars Battlefront has been release successfully that he will be focusing on his next project, Battlefield 5.
Now that we’ve shipped Battlefront and a part of the team continues to work on it, I am moving on to another project, the next Battlefield..

Fans of the Battlefield franchise are keen to know all the details, but they will have to wait to find out answers to their questions until an official release is confirmed. Fans are already piling in with questions about Battlefield 5 such as will it be using the existing Frostbyte engine or is there a new one on the way, we suspect a tweaked engine and a hugely popular questions is please for the love of all that is good, no more autoaim!!
The Battlefield franchise has been around now since 2002 when the brilliant Battlefield 1942 was released. Since then we have had, at best guess, 14 incarnations of the game, which includes Console only releases and Battlefield Online. This doesn’t include the numerous expansions and DLC that have been made available over time. EA Dice are firmly in the lets milk it for all it’s worth category. Generally a good job is done, but I fear for such a good series of games when it meets the year on year on release schedule a la Call of Duty. Fans generally become segregated as to their choice of titles because different studios work on them and therefore there can be different standards.
This news follows July’s comments from Chief Financial Officer Blake Jorgensen during the Q1 Financial Report call stating “What we have said is that our intention over the next couple of years is to have a first-person shooter as one of the core titles,” he explained. “This year, obviously, it’s Star Wars Battlefront. Next year, it’s another Battlefield title.”. At the 2014 UBS Global Technology Conference (via Gamespot), he revealed he’s already seen the game and thinks it’s a “fun, new Battlefield.” and that it “will be a return to a Battlefield military-style game; more to come on that”. An IMDB entry suggested the title may be called Armageddon and states that Battlefield 5 is about a small town soldier who is in battle for japan. He must fight to get home to his family and friends. We are unconvinced on this part.
Stay tuned for more info as we get it.
