Battlefield 4 Will Not Support Motion Control, DICE Calls It a ‘Gimmick’

According to a report that was made by Edge-Online on April 16, DICE does not have any plans to implement support for motion controls with their upcoming installment to the popular Battlefield franchise, Battlefield 4.

Speaking with DICE executive producer Patrick Bach, it is stated that DICE believes that motion control is a “gimmick” and will not improve Battlefield 4 in any way, which is why it will not be supported with this title.

We are not interested in things that don’t make the game better. There are a lot of gimmicks – people throwing money at us – ‘can you implement support for this quirky control thing’. No, it doesn’t make the game better.”

Bach also commented on the various other development studios that are pouring money into providing support for motion controls, while DICE has decided to opt-out of this implementation.

“We are extremely open to innovation, but if it’s a gimmick, there’s no point unless it adds value to the player. Touch screens used to be a gimmick, because no-one could get it to work until iPhone came out and used it right. It adds to the experience, and now everyone is doing it. To us it’s the same with motion control and perceptual gaming in general; if it adds, great. If it’s a gimmick, ignore it.”
