In an interview with OXM, Bethesda, the company behind major game franchises such as The Elder Scrolls and Fallout, has begun revving up the hype train for 2013. “I think you’ll hear us making considerably more noise this year than we did last year, as a publisher,” said Peter Hines the company’s Vice President.
“Obviously the Elder Scrolls Online is out and we’ve got the Dishonored DLC but we will be announcing new stuff and making some noise, and I think when we get the chance to show you guys what we’re up to, that you’ll sit up and take notice.” Unfortunately, Hines wasn’t prepared to share what exactly is going to have gamers sit up and take notice, but that certainly doesn’t stop us from speculating.
The year 2012 was a pretty good year for Bethesda. Bethesda released three Skyrim DLC’s as well as the critically acclaimed and commercially successful Dishonored. If Hines is even more excited about 2013, there are a lot of intriguing possibilities for gamers to look forward to. While a new single player Elder Scrolls game is extremely unlikely, new DLC for Skyrim is definitely possible. We also haven’t heard from the Fallout franchise in a while, and it would be surprising if 2013 goes by without seeing or hearing about Fallout 4.
Besides Fallout and The Elder Scrolls, Zenimax, the parent company of Bethesda is also the owner of Id Software which has been working on the long awaited Doom 4. It is very possible that both Doom 4 and Fallout 4 will wind up on next-generation platforms, potentially not too long from the launch window of the PS4 and the next Xbox.
There is also Prey 2 which has been in a state of flux recently, but who knows perhaps Bethesda has righted that ship as well. If one or more of these games join Elder Scrolls Online and the Dishonored DLC this year, Bethesda fans are definitely going to have their hands full.
