Assassin’s Creed 4 To Feature A New Setting And Protagonist

Ubisoft’s CEO has revealed that gamers don’t just have another Assassin’s Creed game on the horizon, but also that it’s set to move on from Connor Kenway and the American Civil War to a new setting.

Polygon has reported that during Ubisoft’s latest financial earnings call CEO Yves Guillemot confirmed the next game in the Assassin’s Creed series is set for release in the 2014 fiscal year (which stretches from April 2013 to March 2014). This news should not come as much of a surprise to gamers who have had an Assassin’s Creed game released every year since 2009.

Along with the confirmation came the reveal that the next game in the series will feature a new historical setting and a new protagonist. This may come as a small surprise to some after the last game in the series divided fans. Guillemot claims that the next installment will be ‘another major leap forward for the franchise’ and that ‘It is the benefit of multiple teams working on multiple chapters of the product, each getting several years to make their versions of an Assassin’s Creed game’. He also indicated that gamers can expect Ubisoft to be revealing further details about the next game in the series in the near future.

With the Third Crusade, Renaissance and American Revolution behind them, it’ll be interesting to see where the series goes next and what shape its newest protagonist might take. Some gamers have taken to speculating that an Assassin’s Creed game set in World War 1 or World War 2 is on the cards. Personally, I’ve always thought that the French or Russian Revolution would make splendid settings for an Assassin’s Creed game – what do you think?
