On current generation consoles, this being the PS3 and Xbox 720, something that is rarely achieved with new releases is the specification of 60 frames per second or full 1080p resolution. Additionally, it is nearly nonexistent that a title will be capable of rendering 1080p resolution while maintaining a constant 60 frames per second performance. With the upcoming release of the PS4 and Xbox 720, many gamers believe that these systems will maintain a standard of 60 frames per second at 1080p resolution.
In regards to this, it appears that this standard will not be brought on by these the next generation consoles. According to John Carmack, 60 frames per second will not be a target for next generation consoles. Carmack insists that developers will still target the 30 frames per second standard.
Unfortunately, I can pretty much guarantee that a lot of next-gen games will still target 30 fps.
Currently, the only gaming platform that is able to provide gamers with constant 60 FPS gaming is the PC platform. If the above statement is true, it seems that the PC platform will be the only choice for those that wish to pursue a 60 FPS standard.
