The Sims 4: City Living DLC Celebrity Edition Arriving in Early 2017?

Rumors are circling about that The Sims 4: City Living DLC is arriving early next year.

Specifically, the rumors are hinting at a sort of Celebrity Edition that will see the return of the celebrity status meter from The Sims 3: Late Night.

However, these rumors are exactly just that — rumors. There has been no confirmation from either EA or Maxis that a new expansion is coming out any time soon.

The Sims 4: City Living DLC Coming Soon? Probably Not

In addition to the fact, there’s been no official announcement, previous statements from Maxis imply that they don’t want to add celebrity status in the recently released expansion.

When the expansion first came out early this month, iDigitalTimes spoke with Sims producer Grant Rodiek on why the city expansion for Sims 4 omitted the celebrity feature present in the previous game.

This was his answer:

“I think celebrity mostly makes sense to the city because it’s something we’ve done in the past for Sims, but I don’t necessarily think is has a whole lot to do with the city per se. Unless you live in Los Angeles or certain parts of New York, you probably don’t see celebrities too often.”

He then goes on to talk about how he’s never seen a famous person in the eleven years he’s lived in San Francisco — the city that City Living is based on.

City Living is About Day-to-Day Life

In addition to that, he explains that they intended for the City Living expansion to focus more on the day-to-day life of living in the city. They didn’t want to focus on the extravagant and fantastical nature of a celebrity lifestyle.

We tried to capture that sense of leaving home, moving your way up through terrible apartments and terrible landlords and finding the opportunities that a city provides that a small town in Texas may not. We wanted to make the normal feel exciting and aspirational.

He also talks about how they were hesitant to re-include this feature, to begin with. Reception to the feature in the previous game was mixed at best. There were several complaints regarding the feature back in 2013 calling it “annoying” and “useless.”

In the end, the team was afraid of turning off players once again. He even describes the feature as something of a “boogeyman” for the development team.

So as it is now, it seems unlikely that we’ll be seeing the return of celebrity status in The Sims 4.

And while they are rumors floating around regarding that, it’s always best to just wait in an official announcement.
