Lelouch vi Britannia conquered the world of anime by storm after his appearance in Code Geass. However, it appears the Order of the Black Knights will make a return in Code Geass Season 3, just ten years after the series’ historic release.
The return was announced during the Code Geass 10th Anniversary event in Maihama, Japan. Fans are excited to see that the one and only Lelouch vi Britannia will finally make a return in an actual sequel to the series.
However, there are no news yet if this will be a film or a TV series.
Aside from this, there will be a three-part movie compilation of the series’ first two seasons, with unaired scenes and re-recorded voice overs. Its first iteration will be aired in January next year.
Sunrise launched Code Geass in 2006 with Lelouch of the Rebellion R1, with characters designed by Clamp. The story follows an alternate timeline, where the Holy Britannian Empire has conquered much of the world’s countries. An exiled prince, Lelouch vi Britannia, obtains a power known as Geass that allows him to make anyone do his bidding. He uses this abilities to obliterate the royal empire and reclaim his birthright.
Its success spawned various manga, light novel and even games related to the series. A sequel, Lelouch of the Rebellion R2, was released two years later. After that, there was a ten year “silence” with the franchise, spawning only original video animations that cemented the timeline in between the two seasons.
Both seasons of Code Geass won their respective Tokyo International Anime Fair and Animation Kobe events. They even won in the Animage Anime Grand Prix.
Code Geass Season 3: Lelouch of the Resurrection will take place after the events of Zero Requiem.
Code Geass Season 3: Lelouch of the Resurrection
The new season will hopefully answer some questions fans have about the true situation of Lelouch’s character. It can be remembered that the Geass – the so-called Power of Kings – can manifest in a lot of individuals should they meet those that have fully activated their powers. However, Lelouch has already decimated what’s left of the Geass Cult in the world, meaning there are no more Geass users left except for himself and his partner C.C.
This means Lelouch is in fact truly alive after the events of Zero Requiem. It can be remembered that he used a persona of Zero, a stylized war hero, to lead a band of rebels called the Order of the Black Knights against Britannia. Their small group amassed global popularity and power with Lelouch’s tactical prowess. However, his schemes made him slowly look like a villain, even to his best friend Suzaku Kururugi.
In the end, Lelouch became the dictatorial ruler of Britannia, with Suzaku ensuring that Zero will remain a hero. Suzaku, as Zero, apparently kills Lelouch with the latter’s sister, Nunnally, leading Britannia as a “good” ruler.
However, there are other events in play. In the spin-off OVA, it’s revealed there are more parties in question. For instance, in Oz the Reflection, Orpheus Zevon is a young terrorist in pursuit of his lover’s killer. Akito the Exiled features Akito Hyuga and Leila Malcal of the W-0 special unit, a rebel formation in the failing Europia United group of nations. Lelouch even resurfaces as a former amnesiac named Julius Kingsley, during the time he lost his memories.
