Thanksgiving 2016 Store Hours: Which Shops, Banks Are Open Until What Time?

Thanksgiving 2016 is finally here! But along with this cheerful occasion comes the frazzles of the holiday. With such, last minute shopping can prove to be a daunting task.

Most stores are closed during thanksgiving. Which is to be expected as it is a government-proclaimed holiday. Expect all government offices to be closed since it is also declared to be a Federal holiday.

In addition to government offices, banks will also be closed. However, ATM machines and self-service kiosks for check payments and money transfers are still available everywhere. But if you really need to do an over-the-counter transaction, unfortunately, you’d have to wait the next day.

Thanksgiving 2016 Stores Opened and Closed

While both banks and offices will surely be closed, grocery stores and pharmacies are still opened. However, it is important to remember that these stores might not be opened the entire usual store hours. It is best to contact the stores you wish to visit near you.

Fortunately though, stores like CVS, Walgreens, and Walmart are opened on that day. CVS will be opened all day but also encourages you to confirm with the branch near you with regards to the store hours. Aldi will be closed on Thanksgiving 2016 as well as Publix, and Trader Joe’s. Opened the whole day, but with the same disclaimer are Walgreens, Dollar General, Rite Aid and Walmart. While stores like Food Lion is open until 3 PM, Harris Teeter until 2 PM, Kroger’s, Wegman’s and Whole Foods until around 4 to 5 PM.

Thanksgiving 2016 Restaurants Opened and Closed

It is tradition to have dinner with the family at home. However, some opt to eat outside with their families. While each household is different, the common denominator is food.

Everyone wants to have a warm dinner during this festive occasion to give thanks. For those who decide to cook at home, their problems would most likely be about where to buy those ingredients they forgot on the last minute.

For those eating out, however, finding restaurants open is the challenge. The usual advise is to choose one that has a lot of branches and the larger national chains. Inquistr shares that places like Bob Evans, Cracker Barrel, Country Buffet, and Applebees will be open during the holiday.

There are also some open in the area which are less popular. So it is good to look around town as well.
