The actor took ill while he was backstage at Brown’s Mart Theater in Darwin, Australia on Friday. The actor passed away in Darwin over the weekend.
Theater Cancels ‘And I’m The Queen of Sheba’ Play
He portrayed the role of Frank in the play ‘And I’m The Queen Of Sheba.’ Local playwright Kate Wyvil wrote the play that opened Thursday. It was scheduled to run until December 3.
Out of respect for Kiefel, the theater cancelled the rest of the season. The theater will refund those who have bought tickets for the play.
Brown’s Mart executive director Sean Pardy called the actor’s death as a tragic event, according to NT News.
Pardy adds that this is an emotional time for Keifel’s family and everyone involved in the production.
When Pardy first met the actor, he recognized Keifel as a generous, funny and cheeky man. “It was an honor to meet him and a privilege to see him perform on the Brown’s Mart stage.”
Neighbors Co-stars Express Sorrow
Meanwhile, former Neighbors co-stars also expressed their grief over news of Russell Kiefel Dead.
Actress Collete Mann is among the first to express sorrow over Kiefel death. Mann portrayed the role of Sheila Canning, the actor’s love interest in Neighbors.
She posted on Instagram her picture with the actor on the program. “I am very, very sad to say that the wonderful actor, Russell Kiefel who played Russell Brennan in 2015 on @neighbours passed away yesterday,” she wrote.
Another Neighbors actor, Travis Burns, posted on Twitter another photo with Kiefer. ‘So sad to hear the passing of Russell Kiefel today. It was an absolute honour to work with you. Rest in peace,’ wrote Burns who played Kiefel’s onscreen son.
