Kevin Love is on fire during the Cleveland Cavaliers versus the Portland Trail Blazers match yesterday. The three-time All-Star set a new NBA record in just the first quarter.
Cavaliers forward, Kevin Love scored 34 points in the first quarter making him break a record for points in the first quarter. This is just three points less Golden State Warrior’s Klay Thompson’s 37 points in third quarter last January 23, 2015. Despite not getting the title of most points scored in any quarter, his remarkable achievement undoubtedly contributed to Cavs winning the game.
However, Kevin Love said it was not all that special. “I’m not trying to be nonchalant about it, but sometimes when you’re in it, you don’t necessarily feel it. It was nothing out of the ordinary, as far as our play-calling and flow of the game.”
Kevin Love Breaks Record
The Cavaliers finished with 137-125 win against the Blazers with 40 points contributed by the 28-year old forward. Kevin Love made 12 out of his 20 shots including eight three-pointers. This is the first time after two years that the athlete was able to score 40 points again.
His teammate, shooting guard JR Smith, however, was quite impressed with his performance. “He beat them by himself. To hit shots like that in the first quarter — never seen it.”
Previous title holder, Lebron James also sent praises to the forward. He said, “I’ve always loved seeing my teammates catch one of those moments right there and just try to keep him in that zone as much as possible. I went over and told him just whatever you’re doing, wherever you’re at right now, just stay right there. Stay even keel. Whatever you’re thinking about right there, just stay there, because we’re going to keep coming to you.”
But it was team work that allowed Kevin Love the chance to score as much. Kyrie Irving, along with other players made sure that there was an opening for him to score which made them the victor of the night.
