December is just around the corner and Sony PlayStation Plus owners will receive a new bundle of free games from the gaming company. And while we may not yet know what games they’ll release, it’s always fun to make a few predictions.
Before we continue with our predictions, let’s review what Sony gave their players this past month of November.
PS4 owners got a chance to play Everyone’s Gone to the Rapture as well as The Deadly Tower of Monsters. PS3 owners, on the other hand, received Dirt 3 and Costume Quest 2. While Vita owners got Pumped BMX+ and Letter Quest Remastered.
PlayStation Plus Games December 2016 Predictions
There’s a history between EA titles and the PlayStation Plus free games. In the past, they’ve released titles such as Dragon Age: Origins, Mass Effect 2, and Dead Space 3 on the PlayStation Plus program. So it might be possible that we see the EA published puzzle-platformer from earlier this year join that list.
Unravel tells the story of Yarny — a small creature made of yarn. Throughout the game, players will use Yarny’s ability to unravel himself to solve puzzles and cross obstacles. The game released earlier this year in February to decent reviews with a Metacritic score of 78/100 for the PS4.
Wolfenstein: The New Order
With the recent influx of multiplayer first person shooters this month of November, Sony might look into giving away one of the best single player shooters of this generation to take advantage of the boon.
Wolfenstein: The New Order is a completely single player shooter and a part of the Wolfenstein franchise. Players take on the role of B.J. Blazkowicz in an alternate timeline where Germany won the second World War. It holds a 79/100 on Metacritic for the PS4 version and was widely praised for its gameplay and combat mechanics.
Hyper Light Drifter
In the past few years, Sony consoles have grown to have an affinity with indie titles. And from time to time they’ve included a few of these hidden gems within their PlayStation Plus offers.
Despite the high praise it got (on PC at least) it never really became all that popular. It was even nominated for four Golden Joystick Awards this year, though it didn’t win any of them. So we think Hyper Light Drifter is a prime candidate for this month just to give it that little push in popularity it needs.
Gravity Rush Remastered
Gravity Rush was a Sony published game for the Vita that received moderate success. Well perhaps more than moderate as it became popular enough to warrant both a PS4 remaster and a sequel coming out in 2017. And that’s why we predict it being included in PlayStation Plus for the month of December — to gain interest for the upcoming sequel.
The sequel comes out in January of 2017 as a PS4 exclusive, but given how the original game started out on the Vita, there might not be enough of a fanbase on that platform in the current state. So giving away the first game for free is likely to get some new fans and more potential buyers for the sequel.
As a reminder, these are all just our predictions for the month of December. We can’t see the future nor do we have any insider knowledge on this matter.
However, we do think that Sony needs to give something really good this coming December given how the November release wasn’t all that impressive.
