Everyone is on high alert for the latest news on Mass Effect Andromeda. And it’s no surprise as the original Mass Effect trilogy was a major hit in the eyes of gamers and critics alike.
Well luckily for us, Bioware has revealed some new information regarding one of the new races — the Kett. Likewise, we also have hints of a second new race to appear in Andromeda as well — a race known as the Remnant.
Mass Effect Andromeda Introduces the Kett
As reported by Game Informer, the Kett appear to be the new antagonistic race in the upcoming game.
The video above shows an interview with art director Joel MacMillan as he describes their process in designing the Kett.
He begins with saying that they wanted the new races to feel more organic. This would be in contrast with the more industrial design that the Milky Way races have. The video continues to talk about how the design of the Kett gradually changed over time in order to make them look more appealing to the player character.
By the end of the video, they reveal what seems to be the final design for the Kett.
Though, honestly speaking, it seems some of the earlier designs were far more interesting than the final one they settled on. Especially since they kept talking about making something new and different, the final Kett design just looks like a human with stone armor on.
The other new race has much less information than the Kett. Mainly because Bioware hasn’t really talked about them as much. Instead, the information we have is from a small bit of dialogue from a 4K tech video that they did last September.
A little under a minute into the video, a character says the line:
At which point another character replies:
Remember, they don’t turn nasty unless you get to close.
And this whole dialogue is triggered by a bunch of floating aliens leaving some sort of nest and just idling around.
These aliens, presumably the “Remnant,” appear to be some sort of ancient alien race that built (and seemingly maintain) the massive structure that the video takes place in. At the same time, they appear to be completely passive until the end of the video when Ryder triggers some sort of device that causes some sort of meltdown in the entire building.
It appears that these Remnant is Andromeda’s equivalent of the Protheans from the first trilogy. Some sort of ancient alien race that built these massive structures that seem to be the center point of the game’s narrative.
But until we get any actual information this is mainly speculation.
Mass Effect Andromeda is set to release in 2017 for Xbox One, PS4, and PC.
