Kanye West cancelling tour is raising concerns that he is on the verge of a nervous breakdown. He stands to lose around $10 million for calling off the tour.
A Daily Mail report quotes unnamed sources saying, West “has been hospitalized for his own safety after suffering a psychotic breakdown.”
According to TMZ, the singer has been taken to UCLA Medical Center for evaluation.
Police responded to a call for a welfare check on Kanye at around 1:20 pm Pacific time, law enforcement sources reveal.
Kanye West Checked For Severe Sleep Deprivation
The sources said paramedics also responded to the call. The singer was brought to the hospital by ambulance. But Kanye refused to go to the hospital so he was handcuffed to a gurney in the ambulance.
Other sources close to Kanye say one of his doctors checked him for severe sleep deprivation. Someone decided he has to be admitted.
Reports of his hospitalization came after he canceled the rest of his Saint Pablo tour. At the November 17 Sacramento concert, Kanye shocked his fans when he said he supports President-elect Donald Trump. He also spent around 10 minutes ranting about Jay Z, Beyonce, and Hillary Clinton. Then, he refused to continue the show, which lasted only 30 minutes.
Exhaustion, Quarrel’s with Kim Lead to Breakdown
Kanye West’s friends and fans expressed alarm when the singer posted 99 blurry photos of clothing on his Instagram profile. These were from vintage Maison Margiela lookbooks, according to Uproxx.
Sources cited several reasons that could have caused his “breakdown.”
One source says the singer is exhausted over coping with Kanye West fashion line and the tour. “He’s been working around the clock on fashion design,” the source tells Page Six. He has been busy with both his own line and the Adidas line.
On top of this, he and wife Kim Kardashian “have been arguing since the Paris robbery.” Kim wanted Kanye to spend more time with her while she was recovering from the incident.
Early this year, Kanye’s long-time friend and song collaborator Rhymefest stopped working with him. Rhymefest co-founded Donda’s House, a non-profit that supports young aspiring artists in Chicago.
In February, he tweeted Kanye West needs spiritual and mental counseling. “He should step away from the public & yesmen [sic] & heal,” he posted. “I love my brother. I pray for his health, not our entertainment.”
