Nina Dobrev’s return to Vampire Diaries season 8 is still in question. However, contrary to other sources, speculations are that the actress returns on the show’s final season this time as Katherine Pierce.
Katerina Petrova or Katherine Pierce is a doppelganger of Elena Gilbert. Though she looks innocent, the more than 500-year old vampire is cold and calculating. Born in 1473, Katherine is a former vampire who was captured in early Mystic Falls to be burned at the stakes. She is also formerly the lover of both Damon and Stefan Salvatore. Guess old dogs cannot really learn new tricks.
While completely opposite to Elena’s character, Katherine is also one of the major players in former seasons of the vampire series. While the cold-blooded and cold-hearted vampire was initially portrayed as the main antagonist of the story, she is slowly revealed as a key character in saving the life of Elena.
Katherine Returns for the Vampire Diaries Season 8
It has not been confirmed whether Dobrev will be joining the final season of the eight-year installment. Several sources, including statements from both Paul Wesley and ex Ian Somerhalder, says there won’t be any Elena. However, they did not say that Katherine will not be back.
Showrunner, Julie Plec reminds us of the pilot episode in 2009 where Damon (Somerhalder) promised Stefan (Wesley) of eternal suffering. She promises for the next episodes, eternal suffering is what they will get.
On the fourth episode of the final series, An Eternity of Misery revealed hell on Earth. Damon is being controlled by Sybil, an ancient siren with unmatched powers. Sybil and her sister Seline come from the 750 B.C and are sirens seeking revenge.
After Vampire Diaries season 8 episode 4, TV Guide draws a conclusion. They are saying that since hell is the center of the episode and since Katherine is in hell. So, according to the site, Elena’s doppelganger might show herself again soon.
