With the game being protected by Denuvo as well as Bethesda’s new review policy, Dishonored 2 has been getting some flak lately as we approach its release. To add fuel to the fire, it looks like Dishonored 2 has a Day 1 Patch — and it’s 9GB big.
Day 1 For Dishonored 2
But just because its happened before doesn’t mean people still aren’t annoyed by it. Twitter user @wild_man26 puts it simply:
Redditor Destiny_13 laments at how a 9GB download will pretty much take an entire day to download due to their bandwidth.
“Damn, compared to Titanfall 2’s 88mb this is huge and the game still felt very polished even with such a small patch…9gb.. thats going to take all day for me.. welcome to Australia.”
Fellow Redditor eNaRDe adds, “What hell this patch adds? All the textures and sounds?” commenting on just how large the patch is — especially since the game comes out in just a few days.
The Digital Age
If you purchased a digital version of the game, then this probably isn’t too much of an issue. You were already planning to download over 40GB of data for the game, so another 9GB shouldn’t hurt. However, this is a heavy blow on those that purchased a physical copy of the game.
It’s no secret that digital distribution is taking over the industry and physical media is dying out. However, this is a problem for those that live in countries and locations with poor internet connections or data caps. For people that live with these conditions, a physical copy is their only real option to play these AAA games that or often bigger than 30GB. But including such a large day one patch makes a physical copy of the game moot.
In addition to day one patches, other games have been causing problems for users that rely on physical media. Back in 2015, Metal Gear Solid 5’s physical disc only contained a Steam installer and not the actual game. Physical disc owners still had to download over 20GB of data to play the title.
Either way, for anyone looking forward to playing Dishonored 2 when it releases on November 11, just be ready to download the day one patch.
