The Paris Masters 2016 games have been nothing short of dramatic. Djokovic faced up to Grigor Dimitrov in the third round. He needs to reach the final to outstrip Murray in the rankings. Djokovic defeated Dimitrov 4-6 6-2 6-3.
He will face Marin Cilic in the Paris Masters 2016 quarter-finals. Cilic also defeated David Goffin 6-3 7-6 (9) to advance to the quarters. The Indian Express has reported Djokovic talking about how Cilic is in great form.
Djokovic talked of Cilic’s “big serve” and how he is “quite aggressive”. Djokovic, however, did not advance easily. He also took treatment for a knee problem during the second set. He later called it an “awkward footing in that point”.

In comparison to Djokovic’s rather subdued performance, Murray advanced to the quarter-finals easily. He beat Lucas Pouille 6-3 6-0. He will now face up against Thomas Berdych. Berdych defeated Gilles Simon 6-4 6-3 en route to the quarters.
Murray talked about how he felt he “returned well today. I had chances in almost all of his service games”. He also talked of how “a lot of returns back in play” can lead to greater “pressure on the server”.
However, Murray’s confident display and Djokovic’s niggles have given birth to a new debate. Tennis enthusiasts are now wondering as to who will eventually be the number 1 player. Certainly, at this point, Murray looks like he will outstrip Djokovic by a slim margin.
However, Djokovic is known for his tenacity and persistence. He may rely on tiring Murray out in the manner of his other opponents.
