Gary Running Man exit announcement after six years in the show took fans by surprise. The Korean variety show’s mainstay not only leaves his Monday Couple partner, Song Ji-hyo on her own but fans looking forward to his appearance.
Running Man first aired in SBS on 2010 and has since been highly received by viewers. It is the third longest-running variety show in South Korea. MBC’s Infinite Challenge is first place and has been running for 11 years while KBS2’s 1 Night 2 Days seconds the list with a nine year run.
The show tackles a variety of themes from games to skits and has gained popularity not only in South Korea. In fact, it has been subbed and dubbed in multiple languages. Included are English, Spanish, Portuguese, French, Italian, Thai, Vietnamese, Chinese, Malaysian, Indonesian, Burmese, Arabic, Russian and Turkish.
Gary Running Man Exit Reason
Gary is the third cast to exit the show. First was singer Park Soo-Young, better known as Lizzy, who left after episode 25 due to a conflict in her schedule. Following her was the highly controversial actor, Song Joong-ki who is recently linked to his co-star Song Hye Kyo.
Song Joong-Ki and Gary Running Man appearance were at the same time. Song’s character was portrayed as both the smartest and most handsome. At episode 41, the actor opted out to focus on his acting career. Since then he has been the lead role to highly successful series such as Innocent Man and Descendants of the Sun.
Gary, on the other hand, has been on the show for six years already and is know to be Song Ji-hyo’s Monday Boyfriend. However, the 41-year old rapper informed SBS that he will be leaving the variety show.
According to SBS, Gary wishes to focus on his music and learn more about his craft. The station shares that they respect his decision and bid a happy farewell to the six years Running Man cast.
The show released a statement regarding his exit, saying “We sincerely thank Gary for putting everything into the show for years, as one of the original members of Running Man. Gary wishes to focus on his career as a musician and we wish him the best.”
In addition, SBS confirms that Gary will not be replaced. Nevertheless, guest stars will continue to grace the six-year-old variety show.
