Fans are ecstatic to see Sora, Mickey and company go back to consoles in Kingdom Hearts 3. However, while Square Enix and Disney appear secretive with details, a new HD compilation art may hold clues about the game.
The reveal for Kingdom Hearts HD 2.8 Final Chapter Prologue back in E3 2016 generated buzz about the arrival of the much-awaited game. After all, it’s been 11 years since the release of Kingdom Hearts 2. Fans have only encountered spinoffs, prequels, and games that pieced together the already-confusing narrative of the series.
However, fans will be ecstatic to hear that clues about Kingdom Hearts 3 are right under their noses all along. Art from the three compilation games reveal more than just stunning glass work for their covers. Fans who have the Kingdom Hearts HD 1.5 ReMix, Kingdom Hearts HD 2.5 ReMix and Kingdom Hearts HD 2.8 Final Chapter Prologue better put them side by side.
Tetsuya Nomura told KH13 that if one were to look at the covers, the first series has Sora sitting on a throne. The second and third will have Sora standing up and walking, respectively. One can also notice the change of time with the covers, from dawn to dusk.
This implies that the series (or at least the story so far) will come to a close. Sadly, this is the only news we have so far. According to Game N Guide, despite disappointed fans, the game clearly is still part of their top ten “most-waited” list.
Kingdom Hearts 2.8 Final Chapter Prologue will have a January 12, 2017 release. Meanwhile, the much-awaited Kingdom Hearts 3 is still under development.
Getting Fans up to Speed
Fans who would like a refresher will remember that Kingdom Hearts talk of a mighty Kingdom Hearts that can give access to all hearts. The worlds of Disney and Final Fantasy collide in the series, where characters from various series and games interact with one another.
Only the Keyblade can open the key towards these different worlds. An unsuspecting trio, Sora, Riku, and Kairi, become transported into a world of conspiracy, trials and friendship.
They will slowly discover entities such as the Heartless and encounter their Nobodies. Each of the three will realize their full potential, and realize that a thousands-year-old battle has started everything.
Kingdom Hearts 3 will hopefully put an end to this storyline.
