Last October 15, Michel’le Toussaint released a biopic of her life as Dr Dre wife and surviving his physical abuse. Responding to this, the rap powerhouse denies all claims of his ex-wife and threatens to sue the R&B singer.
Following the highly successful movie Straight Outta Compton, which is a biopic on the lives of NWA members such as Dr Dre, Icecube and Eazy E, Michel’le Toussaint (popularly known as Michel’le) shared her side of the story. In the 45-year old’s biopic, Surviving Compton: Dre, Michel’le & Suge, Michel’le exposes her abusive relationship with Dr Dre.
The movie aired on Lifetime last October 15, 2016 and was in partnership with Sony Pictures Television and Thinkfactory Media. It depicts a Dr Dre never seen by the public before. The biopic portrays Dr Dre wife at that time as the victim of both physical and verbal violence. Some of the scenes even include Dr Dre pointing a gun on Michel’le.
Though the R&B singer claims that her ex-husband was abusive, she also shared how thankful she is to him because the two also had good times. Not denying enjoying the fame and fortune, she admitted that the two of them had chemistry. Their relationship even sprung forth a now 25-year old son, Marcel Young.
Legal Team Threatens to Sue Former Dr Dre Wife
However, the rapper and producer denies the beatings and violence and has even threatened to sue Sony Pictures Television for the biopic. According to Forbes, his legal team sent a cease and desist letter to Sony prior to the airing of the biopic.
Despite having issued a public apology about his treatment to the women in his past, his side still stands together in denial of the abuse claims.
His statement was: “Twenty-five years ago I was a young man drinking too much and in over my head with no real structure in my life…However, none of this is an excuse for what I did. I’ve been married for 19 years and every day I’m working to be a better man for my family, seeking guidance along the way. I’m doing everything I can so I never resemble that man again.”
Howard E. King, Dr Dre’s lawyer, issued a statement saying, “I can assure you that Dre’s August 2015 apology for things he did decades ago was not in any way directed to Michel’le. Her false claims of being a victim arose for the first time more than 25 years after their relationship ended, coinciding with the success of Straight Outta Compton and her own efforts to sell a life story.”
Michelle, naturally, felt “hurt” and even shared it on Twitter, “[My] heart hurts at the fact that I was NEVER BEAT! REALLY?”
Dr Dre Net Worth Affected By Claims of Abuse
Other than the cease and desist letter by his legal team, his attorneys also threatened to sue Michel’le for defamation of character. According to the singer, she is more than ready to fight it out in the courtroom despite her only evidence coming from testimonies of witnesses.
More than the legal expenses, Dr Dre’s net worth is being affected because of the reputation he is getting in public. Being both an entertainer and entrepreneur, the public has much influence in the artist’s income generation.
Dr Dre is one of the most wealthy hip-hop artists in the world and is even part of Forbes Five, taking second place as the wealthiest hip-hop artists in the world.
Other than his records and record label, he is also the owner of the popular headset brand, Beats and also earning from the 2015 biopic Straight Outta Compton. However, it is predicted that Michel’le’s rebuttal will cause him several loses.
Because of the abuse claims, people are expressing their concerns and disappointment via Twitter.
