George RR Martin’s publisher, Random House debunks rumors that Winds of Winter will be released by early 2017.
Talks about the Game of Throne author’s next book have been buzzing online for some time now. A recent report hinted that the release will happen early next year. The rumor was fueled by an on-sale listing of Amazon France that Winds of Winter will be available on March 2017. However, according to Random House, this is not true.
The publication issued a statement to Entertainment Weekly, saying “As his publisher, we support George RR Martin as he works hard to finish The Winds of Winter. Any on-sale dates currently listed online for the novel are incorrect. Once we have a publication date for The Winds of Winter, the world will know.”
Amazon France took down the listing just recently but Entertainment Weekly says this was not the first time Amazon had posted false dates on Martin’s books in its listings. About a year ago, the online market hub also shared false dates on A Song of Ice and Fire.
Winds of Winter release date set for 2018?
Since it is confirmed that early 2017 will not be the year Martin publishes Winds of Winter, fans are still hoping that late next year they can get their hands on the sixth installment of the highly-successful Game of Thrones. If not next year, then 2018 may finally be the year of Winds of Winter release date.
However, neither Martin’s US publishers Penguin Random House nor UK Publisher HarperCollins have confirmed any date of release at present.
They have also stressed that if there is any update or announcement for the release date of the much-anticipated book, Martin will reveal it first on his personal blog.
In addition, Martin wrote last January that he will no longer set any deadline for the book, as it just stresses him out.
“The deadlines just stress me out. I am going back to my stance from last March, before all this. It will be done when it’s done. And it will be as good as I can possibly make it.”
Though fans will not be able to read Winds of Winter in 2017, there is still Game of Thrones season 7 to look forward to as HBO confirms the Season 7 premiers on summer 2017.
