E3 starts this time next week, and already we’re being inundated by rumors of which games will be revealed. Chances are not all of these will pan out, but some of them surely will, and others already have.
Watch Dogs 2 has been bouncing around the rumor mill for a while now, but it’s all but confirmed to be showing up at E3 this year. Ubisoft even had a teaser trailer on their Youtube channel that they’ve since removed. IGN even went as far as to accidentally leak the release date, 11.15.16, and location, San Francisco, with a banner ad, which then found its way to NeoGAF:
I’d file that under all-but-confirmed.
Bethesda has their own round of rumors floating about, the first of which is that a Skyrim remaster will be shown at E3, which, as far as I can predict, will probably be the PC version of the game with the HD textures enabled. Skyrim is still a bit too recent for a huge remaster, especially since Fallout 4 wasn’t exactly a graphical powerhouse, so it’s unlikely that their Creation Engine can go too crazy. With any luck, this Skryim rumor will turn out to be false, but only because it’s a Morrowind and/or Oblivion remaster instead.
Evil Within 2 and Wolfenstein 2 are also rumored to be announced at E3. Both of those games came out two years ago, so a teaser and a 2017 release date isn’t too absurd to consider. Wolfenstein: The New Order, specifically, did really well Bethesda, so a sequel is given.
More interesting is the rumor that Prey 2 will show up in some way, shape, or form. There’s a good chance it won’t even be called Prey 2, and will have nothing in common with the Prey 2 that was revealed way back in 2011. That game is all but cancelled, but if other rumors are true, Arkane Austin (an offshoot of the Dishonored devs) agreed to resurrect Prey 2, but only if they were allowed to build it up from the ground up in their image. There’s no telling what shape that game will be taking now.
Moving on from Bethesda, Injustice 2 is also rumored to make its unveil at E3 this year. A helpful tipster sent Polygon a promo photo. Injustice: Gods Among Us came out just over three years ago, and Netherrealm has to be up to something when they’re not making Mortal Kombat games, and botching the PC Ports of Mortal Kombat games. So Injustice 2 isn’t too surprising.
This isn’t even including all the games that are probably going to be shown off in full at E3. You can be that if we know it exists, it’ll be at E3. Chances are we’ll see the first playable demos from a lot of games, from Titanfall to Mass Effect Andromeda. Battlefield 1 is sure to be shown off, and Ubisoft has a few games that were announced at last year’s E3 that we haven’t heard a peep from since then: namely Ghost Recon: Wildlands and For Honor. Who knows, we might even see Cyberpunk 2077.
And who knows which games will be announced that haven’t yet leaked. Choo. Choo. The hype train’s a comin’.
