Hot on the heels of the Doom release, there’s also a new trailer for Mirrors Edge Catalyst (a game too cool for a colon), which releases on May 24th, roughly two weeks after Doom.
I’m not sold on DICE’s ability to tell a story, especially if Battlefield 4 is any indication, but they came close with Battlefield: Bad Company, so we’ll see. This trailer leans a little too much on Faith-o-drama, who seems like the stereotypical troubled youth who’s trying her best to prove something to not only herself, but to everyone else. Bashing faces with a police baton in the process. And, you know, parkour. We’ll have to wait and see how well other aspects of the story play out.
Story aside, the game looks super rad, especially the visual tone, as well as the flat out graphical fidelity, but if DICE knows anything, it’s how to make a pretty game, and a good sounding game. I will forever maintain that DICE has one of the best sound departments in the industry.
Mirrors Edge Catalyst might not be the sequel everyone was clamoring for since the original game came out in 2008, but it’s a new Mirrors Edge, and will hopefully not be the last. There aren’t enough good first person parkour games out there.
There will also be a beta of some sort at some point. Not much has been revealed about that, but knowing the current trend of betas in AAA games, it’ll be a good portion of the open world, with one or two story quests, and a few side things to do. At least we’ll be able to run around, do parkour, and keep the Faith.
You can sign up for that here.
