Assassins Creed Empire (Egypt) in 2017?

The Mummy Returns? No, sorry Assassins Creed Empire is rumoured and when we say rumoured the knowledgeable folks over at Kotaku are stating that their sources close to the game believe that the next AAA installment of the game is going to skip it’s annual merry-go-round in favour of using its time wisely give its all to the new codename Assassins Creed Empire. Empire is believed to be set in Egypt, we presume that is ancient Egypt. Are you up for some parkour and grappling with the Sphinx in Assassins Creed Empire?

Kotaku state:

The next Assassin’s Creed, which we believe is set in ancient Egypt and code-named Empire, won’t launch until 2017, according to both a new online rumor and sources speaking to Kotaku. One person familiar with Ubisoft’s upcoming gaming plans told me this afternoon that the decision to delay Empire from fall 2016 was made after 2014’s disappointing Unity, and that this bump will allow the development team more room to improve and polish the game. The source said this biennial approach could be a new trend for Assassin’s Creed, which has suffered from franchise fatigue in recent years.

Assassins Creed Empire

Seemingly this source has actually come from the 4Chan boards and claims to be a Ubisoft developer, however Kotaku’s other sources last year and today have indicated similar things. So, there may be some more truth to this than first thought. Another school of thought is that with the Michael Fassbender Assassins Creed film coming out next December Ubisoft feel that this year may represent the best time for a time out and re-assessment of the constant monotony of annual titles that never really change. We hope so.

So that’s, potentially, Egypt in the bag? Where do you want to see the franchise go next? I still love the idea of a modern day title.
