Dead Rising 3 Not Releasing in Germany

phpP6mxtdAMConfirming a German video game news post published on October 10th, a Microsoft representative stated to GameSpot that Dead Rising 3 will not be released in Germany on the game’s November 22nd launch date.  The representative said that:

Dead Rising 3 will not be released in Germany as part of the Xbox One launch lineup on Nov. 22 having been unable to attain an age-rating upon review by BPjM (Bundeprüfstelle für jugendgefährende Medien), the country’s entertainment software self-regulation body.

Though it is true that Dead Rising 3 will not be released in Germany, it is still unknown whether or not Microsoft will create a different version of the game specifically for Germany.  The exact reason for the disapproval of Dead Rising 3’s release in Germany’s game market is also unknown.  The reasoning may, however, be related to Germany’s video game classification board and their adversity to graphic violence.  This is supported by the fact that Dead Rising 1 and 2, along with Dead Island: Riptide are unavailable for purchase in Germany.

Microsoft also commented, “We are unable to comment on the ratings process or the subjective content standards, but we can say the rating was determined following a detailed review of the game.”  They continued that, “While Microsoft is disappointed with this decision, we respect the views of the review panels and have withdrawn Dead Rising 3 from Germany’s Xbox One launch line-up. Beyond that, we have no further comment.”

Furthermore, despite Dead Rising 3 not being released in Germany, German gamers who wish to play the game can always import it from another region.

Dead Rising 3 launches on November 22nd with the Xbox One.

How ironic. Is Germany trying to make up for it’s bloodthirsty past? If so how misguided they are by banning harmless videogames.
