Guild Wars 2 has always been a free to play game on a monthly basis, but did require that users pay an initial fee in order to purchase the game. However, now Guild Wars 2 is allowing the game to be played for free through a free trial that is going to be offered by the game’s creators. Guild Wars 2 is known for the huge amount of content that is offered, and allowing users to get a look at it through a free trial could potentially help the company to bring in a larger player base.
Arenanet will be making the game available through the free trial during their upcoming update. The update is expected to come on October 1st called The Twilight Assault. This update will add a new dungeon to the game, and will provide a great deal of more content for players.
It should be interesting to see how the free trial is for the user base of the game, and also should help determine whether or not the game would ever consider going free to play well into the future. Guild Wars 2 has quickly become one of the most played online MMO’s, and this free trial should help them to expand a user base that is already one of the largest in the world.
