Star Wars: Battlefront is Deep Into Development, According to DICE

According to EA Games Label president Frank Gibeau, DICE is “well into the development” of the new-gen Star Wars: Battlefront.  The main concepts and ideas of the game reportedly received positive fan feedback when they were shown briefly at E3.  (Watch the teaser trailer for the game below:)

Gibeau also stated that the new Star Wars: Battlefront “has a third-person component to it”, implying that the player will have the option to play the game from a third-person perspective, aside from the first-person view shown in the trailer.  Furthermore, the game is being created by DICE’s Battlefield team, who are developing it using the Frostbite 3 engine.  The Frostbite 3 engine is Frostbite’s new-gen graphical engine, which is being used for a few highly anticipated releases, such as Battlefield 4 and Dragon Age: Inquisition.

Overall, judging by the talented, experienced development team and state-of-the-art graphical engine being used to make this game, I think that the new Star Wars: Battlefront will be as well-received as the original games, if not more so.  As stated by EA Games executive VP Patrick Söderlund in an interview with CVG,

When it comes to the actual game, the approach we’re going to take is it’s a rebirth of the brand, it is Star War: Battlefront done the DICE way. The original Battlefront games actually took a lot of inspiration from Battlefield and they’ve been publicly open about that. As the guys said, the game is ‘coming home’. That’s as much as we can say.

As of now, no official release date for the game has been announced.
