While the rumours may be going around about the release date of Square Enix’s upcoming action RPG, Kingdom Hearts 3, not everyone is buying into them, and with good reason.
The rumours began with an apparent “insider” at Square Enix leaking to the public that the release date was confirmed as Spring 2014, but Denis Advic, of Enixorigins.com, tells us why that couldn’t possibly be the case. He writes “there is absolutely no way Kingdom Hearts 3 will be released in 2014 due to the fact that it is in extremely early stages of development and the fact that Nomura [referring to Tetsuya Nomura, the game’s director] himself said he was taking the time to promote the new Final Fantasy XV, a game he wanted to create for the longest time. Fans still believe that it will be out in 2014, despite the facts in front of them. Square Enix Origin is about to put the “2014 spring release date” rumor to a rest”.
Confident words, but with facts like that, why wouldn’t he be confident?
In an inteview with Famitsu (It’s in Japanese, so feel free to read the PSU.com article in English for the highlights) Nomura commented “Since the release of Kingdom Hearts II, I believe that many fans were feeling impatient due to our continuous releases of spin-off titles, so we decided to announce it at the same time as Final Fantasy XV. However, looking at the current development status, I think we may have announced it a little too early.” This was in June, 2013.
Personally, I won’t be getting my hopes up regarding the accuracy of the rumour, but if I turn out to be wrong, I’ll console myself with a new copy of Kingdom Hearts 3. What do you guys think of the “Spring 2014” release date? Leave a comment below!
