Homestuck creator Andrew Hussie will be teaming up with Namco Bandai to develop Namco High.
Welp. I knew there was a Homestuck game in the works (which was successfully Kickstarted over threefold…) but I never anticipated Andrew Hussie to do be working on anything other than that, and the webcomic itself.
ShiftLook, a subsidiary of Namco Bandai, posted a press release on their website on July 18 saying that Namco Bandai have partnered up with Hussie and What Pumpkin Studios to develop a browser-based dating sim called Namco High.
“There is no creator with more of a vibrant originality right now than Andrew Hussie,” said Rob Pereyda, ShiftyLook’s Producer and Editor-in-Chief. “We are beyond excited to see where he takes these characters and the unique relationships that will literally unfold between them.”
Namco High will be produced under the supervision Namco Bandai’s ShiftyLook project as well as the creative direction of Hussie himself. The game itself will feature a mash up of characters from across the Namco Bandai universe and will put those characters in a high school setting.
“As What Pumpkin Studios and ShiftyLook are both purveyors of imagination and full of longtime gamers, NAMCO HIGH is an excellent place to commence our partnership,” said George Rohac, Director of Business Development at What Pumpkin Studios. “We are highly anticipating its release.”
This game itself, however, will be developed using the latest in HTML 5-based technology in order to allow for cross-platform across top-end browsers regardless of the device it’s being used on.
To me the setting just sounds like it’s basically a fanfic written by a teenager. No doubt it’ll feature a kawaii Goku or something, with a love triangle in there somewhere and a conflicting moral choice system too.
I’m not much of a Homestuck but I imagine that a rather large portion of the fandom lost their shiz when news of this came about.
Namco High will be released onto ShiftyLook’s website pre-Holiday 2013.
