Bungie’s anticipated next-gen title Destiny may have the possibility of coming to PC. I’ll give you a minute to go get your socks back on.
Eric Osborne (Bungie’s Community and Marketing Relations Manager) was asked by IGN if a PC version could be available in the future.
“We haven’t said yes, and we haven’t said no,” Osborne said. “The more platforms we take on, the more work it ultimately becomes, and what we don’t want is to compromise the core experience on any platforms. We have a lot of people who play on PCs. We have a lot of appetite to build that experience. We haven’t announced it yet, but we’re looking forward to talking more about that kind of stuff in the future.”
Osborne’s answer shows promise of the possibility. At least, that’s my interpretation. I for one would like to see a (good) PC release of Destiny.
IGN also asked Osborne if there would be the possibility of being able to transfer files between consoles, such as PlayStation 3 to PlayStation 4.
“For us, [platforms] are purely agnostic. Any data on our back-end servers and services, like Bungie.net, are ours. We control it, we can do a bunch of fun stuff on that side. So for us, we want to absolutely do the right things for players. But there are some complexities we have to solve that are outside our control. But we’re absolutely pushing to solve some of those things. We don’t have anything to announce, but hopefully in the future we will.”
I don’t know if the possible PC version was implied in IGN’s second question but I’m hoping it was. Of course, having said that, it probably wouldn’t be that necessary to transfer a save file from a console to a PC or vise versa. Then again I suppose if gamer’s wanted to transfer their character from a platform to their friend’s platform using The Cloud then that could be a potential way of using that hypothetical feature. It seems possible on paper but perhaps that’s just my naivety speaking.
The title has so far been only confirmed for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 – as well as the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. The possibility of there being a PC version is certainly something I find myself hopelessly intrigued by. The title itself hasn’t been given a released date yet but it’s been said to arrive in 2014.
