Bigwig publisher Ubisoft’s next-gen title Watch Dogs is said to hit the shelves in November; November 19th for the US and November 22nd for the UK. At least, those are the dates for the game launching on PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, Wii U and PC – according to Develop.
As for a PlayStation 4 version: Ubisoft has confirmed that Watch Dogs will come to the PS4 when the console is launched later this year.
Additionally, Ubisoft have promised exlusive PS4 DLC containing 60 minutes of extra gameplay.
Madass Gamers found out recently that the PlayStation 3 version of Watch Dogs will have exclusive 60 minutes of extra content included in it. What Madass wasn’t clear of was whether or not the same content will be coming to the PS4.
“We can confirm that customers who will purchase ‘Watch Dogs’ on PlayStation 3 or PlayStation 4 will be able to download the 60 minutes of additional gameplay via the PlayStation Network after the game’s launch,” Ubisoft comfirmed.
From my understanding: both versions of Watch_Dogs – PlayStation 3 and PlayStation 4 – will have 60 minutes of exclusive extra content that can be downloaded from the PlayStation Network after the game’s launch. However, even though Madass has said the PS3 version will have the extra content already included, Ubisoft says that gamers will be able to download the extra content for both versions. This is most probably my lack of understating, but that just doesn’t quite make sense to me.
To me this implies that Watch Dogs will be launched as a base game, with DLC available on demand. My question is: will that DLC be available for free or for purchase?
My overall worry is that Ubisoft may do what EA have been accused of doing with Mass Effext 3, that being cutting out story-essential content and selling it separately.
How I think it may end up being is the PlayStation 3 version will come with the content included (as Madass has said) and the same content will be available for the PS4 post-launch for free.
Since Ubisoft Montreal has said that Watch_Dogs will be improved overall for the PS4, perhaps maybe the extra content has no choice but to be DLC – because with the improvements UbiMontreal have said there might not be enough memory on the game’s disc to facilitate the extra content.
That just may be me being hopelessly optimistic of course. If Ubisoft do turn out to be doing what EA has been accused of doing, then bad Ubisoft, bad; you won’t get my money if that turns out to be the case.
Will you buy ‘Watch_Dogs’ for the PS3/PS4 in order to play the extra content, free or otherwise? Let us know in the comments!
