A listing from electronics retailer Newegg has raised some questions about the next Gran Turismo from game studio Polyphony. Based on the listing, Gran Turismo 6 will be released for the PS3. The listing mentions nothing about Gran Turismo 6 appearing on Sony’s next generation system the PS4, which is due to be released during this year’s holiday season.
While normally a listing isn’t a solid confirmation of anything, this rumor has a little more credibility because of recent comments made by SCEE senior vice-president Michael Denny in an interview with Silicon Republic, mentioning GT6 alongside The Last of Us and Assassin’s Creed 4, as games that will contribute to PS3 longevity.
If this turns out to be accurate, it would surprising that Polyphony chose to not move GT6 to the more powerful PS4, considering the series’ history of paying special attention to graphical detail. Of all studios that could potentially get a head start on working on games for the PS4, one would think that Polyphony would be near the top of that list.
While unlikely, it isn’t impossible that GT6 could be a multi-platform title for both the PS3 and PS4. According to CVG, GT6 is weeks away from being formally revealed, so until then anything is possible.
