Mortal Kombat Finally Hitting Australian Shore in May

By on

2011’s Reboot of the Mortal Kombat franchise is finally set to hit Australian shores thanks to the recent introduction of the R18+ rating.

The ‘Komplete Edition’ of the game is listed for release on the 29th of May on the EB Games website (Arguably Australia’s biggest games retailer) for both the Xbox 360 and Playstation 3. This edition of the game includes all the numerous additional skins, characters and fatalities that were added to the game post-release. The game was previously banned in Australia as it didn’t fit into the classification guidelines for an MA15+ rating, but is now being released as one of the first few games in the R18+ category.

Interestingly, there has been no word yet as to whether last year’s port of the game to the Playstation Vita (which like its console-cousins was also banned in Australia) will also be getting an Australian release. With the Australian Vita games line-up currently lacking much in the form of strong fighting games, it’ll be a shame if Mortal Kombat doesn’t make it to the platform.

Alongside Left 4 Dead 2, Mortal Kombat was one of the bigger and more popular games that couldn’t be released in Australia thanks to our previous lack of an R18+ rating and as an Australian fan of both fighting games and the Mortal Kombat franchise I’m really looking forward to finally getting my hands on the game.
